Upcoming TRB Webinar for August 1, 2012:
August 1, 2012
TRB Webinar: Developments in Non-Traditional Stabilizers
TRB Webinar: Developments in Non-Traditional Stabilizers
TRB will conduct a webinar on August 1, 2012, from 12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m. ET that will examine non-traditional road dust palliatives and soil stabilizers that may be cost-effective, long-lasting, and environmentally considerate alternatives. Participants must register in advance of the webinar, and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor employees. A certificate for 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDH) will be provided to attendees who register and attend the webinar as an individual.
The webinar is based on presentations given at a session titled Developments in Non-Traditional Stabilizers at the 10th International Low Volume Roads Conference held on July 26, 2011.
Road dust palliatives and soil stabilizers such as magnesium and calcium chloride, lignosulphonate, or blends of these are examples of traditional stabilizers considered to be generic products. Their use and performance is well accepted and understood. An emerging non-traditional group of other, usually proprietary products may be cost-effective, long-lasting, and environmentally considerate alternatives to the traditional set. This webinar identifies some of these products, shows how they can effectively be used, and documents their performance. Also, to provide industry credibility, standardization of supplies and verification tests, and government procurement options, this webinar will discuss an idea to establish an industry association.
Participants must register at least 24 hours prior to the start of the webinar, space is limited.
Upcoming TRB Webinar for August 2, 2012:
August 2, 2012
TRB Webinar: Overview and Current Practice of Ground Tire Rubber Use in Asphalt
TRB Webinar: Overview and Current Practice of Ground Tire Rubber Use in Asphalt
TRB will conduct a webinar on August 2, 2012, from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. ET that will explore the use ground tire rubber in asphalt products. Participants must register in advance of the webinar, and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor employees. A certificate for 2 Professional Development Hours (PDH) will be provided to attendees who register and attend the webinar as an individual.
The utilization of scrap tire rubber in asphalt products started in the mid-1960s for use in asphalt surface treatments as a pavement preservation practice, such as chip seal applications. In the 1970s, ground tire rubber (GTR) in asphalt rubber chip seals was used as a stress absorbing membrane interlayer. Today it is used in asphalt-rubber open graded friction course, hot-applied chips seals, asphalt-rubber dense graded, and warm mix asphalt with rubberized asphalt.
GTR-modified asphalt has evolved due to the enhancement in performance, including resistance to rutting; and thermal, reflective, and fatigue cracking. Reported benefits include reduction in pavement maintenance, smooth ride, good skid resistance, and noise reduction. The increasing cost of polymers has made GTR technology an option for asphalt modification, which has drawn the attention of highway agencies.
This webinar will be an overview of GTR use in asphalt including field and terminal blend of rubberized asphalt. Participants must register at least 24 hours prior to the start of the webinar, space is limited.
Upcoming TRB Webinar for August 8, 2012:
August 8, 2012
TRB Webinar: New Dedicated Revenue Mechanisms for Freight Transportation Investment
TRB Webinar: New Dedicated Revenue Mechanisms for Freight Transportation Investment
TRB will sponsor a webinar in partnership with the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) on August 8, 2012, from 2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m. ET. The webinar will explore TRB’s National Cooperative Freight Research Program (NCFRP) Report 15, which describes methods that might be used to raise revenue to support government investment in freight transportation facilities, primarily for highway transportation. Participants must register in advance of the webinar, and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor employees. A certificate for 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDH) will be provided to attendees who register and attend the webinar as an individual.
The webinar will begin by exploring the wide range of possible revenue generation mechanisms to support government investment in freight transportation facilities and conclude by focusing on fuel tax surcharges, vehicle miles traveled fees, and registration fees. Participants must register at least 24 hours prior to the start of the webinar, space is limited.

TRB Webinar: Entering Records into the Research in Progress (RIP) Database
TRB Webinar: Entering Records into the Research in Progress (RIP) DatabaseTRB will conduct a webinar on August 21, 2012, from 2:00 p.m – 3:00 p.m. ET that will explore entering and managing project records in the Research in Progress (RiP) Database. There is no fee to register for this webinar.
The Transportation Research Board’s RiP website is a leading tool for transportation professionals to stay updated on the status of worldwide transportation research projects. The RiP data-entry system allows users in state transportation departments, the U.S. Department of Transportation, University Transportation Centers, and other U.S. Department of Transportation-funded universities to add, modify, and delete information on their current research projects.
This webinar will provide information on how to enter new records, locate and modify current records, and delete records for completed projects. Although the session will be geared towards University Transportation Centers, all RiP users will find this session informative. Participants must register at least 24 hours prior to the start of the webinar, space is limited.

TRB Webinar: Transportation Risk Management: International Practices for Program Development and Project Delivery
TRB Webinar: Transportation Risk Management: International Practices for Program Development and Project Delivery
TRB will conduct a webinar on August 29, 2012, from 12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m. ET that will examine the results of an international scan that assessed mature risk management practices in Europe and Australia.
In June 2011, a team of 11 U.S. transportation professionals with expertise in risk management visited four countries in Europe and Australia: Australia, Germany, The Netherlands, and England and Scotland in the United Kingdom. The purpose of the scanning study was to examine mature risk management practices in these countries and learn how they had developed their policies and procedures to identify, assess, manage, and monitor risks. The scan was conducted under the auspices of the International Technology Scanning Program, which is conducted by the Federal Highway Administration in cooperation with the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and the National Cooperative Highway Research Program. Research results are available on the TRB website. Participants must register at least 24 hours prior to the start of the webinar, space is limited.
